Antonio Sanchez

A native of Mexico and Magna Cum Laude graduate of Berklee College of Music, Antonio Sanchez is truly a well-rounded drummer. He stared playing the drums at the age of five and later pursued a degree in classical piano at the National Conservatory in Mexico before moving to the United States to study drums at Berklee.

While attending Berklee in the 1990's Antonio quickly became one of the most talked about drummers in Boston and it wasn't long before Zildjian invited him to join their family of Artists. With a versatility and mastery of many different musical styles Antonio brings a variety of musical flavors to each gig he plays and has garnered much respect in the world of International Jazz, performing clinics, drum festivals and master classes all over the world including the Modern Drummer Weekend, the Montreal Drum Festival and the Percussive Arts Society International Convention.

Touring with the Pat Metheny Group, Antonio has quickly become a seasoned musician, recording and/or playing with numerous top musicians, including Danilo Perez, Avishi Cohen, John Patitucci, Scott Colley, Chris Potter, David Sanchez, Marcus Roberts, Paquito D'Rivera and Miguel Zenon.

Antonio's first project with the Pat Metheny Group was the 2002 release, Speaking of Now, where his playing reveals a rich musical talent with maturity and a sense of tradition beyond his years. The 2005 PMG offering, The Way Up provides a unique experience for the listener with long, fluid compositions that bring out the best in Antonio. Said Pat to Jazz Times, "I joke that Antonio's the guy I thought would never be born.......He's the best of a whole bunch of great worlds in one package."

While growing up and listening to many different styles of music some of Antonio's earliest drumming influences included: Vinnie Colaiuta, Jack DeJohnette, Stewart Copeland and John Bonham, just to name a few.

Antonio plays a variety of Zildjian cymbals including the K Zildjian, A Custom, K Custom, and A Zildjian ranges. He also plays Zildjian Dennis Chambers Artist Series drumsticks.
