Along with organizations such as the Percussive Arts Society, Save the Music and many others, Zildjian has found ways to give back to the music community by providing drummers and percussionists with educational endowment and scholarship opportunities.
The Kerope Zildjian Concert Percussion Scholarship 2010
A message from Craigie Zildjian:
The Zildjian family is pleased to announce the sixth annual Kerope Zildjian Scholarship Competition for 2010. This scholarship recognizes an outstanding student percussionist, who is currently enrolled in an undergraduate music program.
At the same time, establishing this scholarship is an opportunity for the family to pay tribute to Kerope, who presided over one of the most-storied periods in Zildjian history. From 1865 until his death in 1909 in Constantinople, Kerope continued to develop the classic K. Zildjian sound, coveted by the world's greatest percussionists. In memory of Kerope's deep commitment to the art of craftsmanship, the Zildjian family established this scholarship to encourage and reward percussionists in their pursuit of performing excellence.
The 2010 Scholarship winner will receive the following:
- A $5000 college tuition award
- An all expense paid trip to Zildjian's world headquarters
- A variety of complimentary cymbals
- A one year subscription to the Percussive Arts Society

Zildjian Percussion Scholarship Schools
In 1979 Craigie Zildjian, now company CEO, initiated a scholarship program targeted at preeminent music schools in the United States, Canada and the UK. Zildjian provides yearly funding for percussion scholarships at these schools, and in some cases Zildjian has fully endowed scholarships. The program is named in memory of Craigie Zildjian’s grandfather, Avedis Zildjian III.
The Zildjian Opportunity Fund
 The Zildjian Opportunity Fund is a permanently endowed trust, managed and administered through the Percussive Arts Society. Its purpose is to provide funding for percussion-based interactive events directed to underserved youth, ages pre-school through high school. Utilizing outstanding percussion presenters, these events are held at schools, community centers, or other publicly accessible facilities at no charge to participants. Applications will be accepted from individual artists and/or organizations, and awards will be granted on artistic quality, content of presentation and demonstrated ability to carry out the proposal as submitted. Applicant/Artist must be a current member of the Percussive Arts Society.
In conjunction with the Percussive Arts Society, the 2009 Zildjian Opportunity Fund grant was awarded to The Dancing Drum Company - a percussion duo formed of members Steve Campbell and Lindsay Rust. As part of the grant, the duo presented a series of workshops to the students at G.W. Carver Elementary School in New Orleans. Every day, for one week in April 2009, Dancing Drum taught students to drum, dance, and sing their way through "Drumming Up Character," an integrated arts program that focused on themes like respect, responsibility, and fairness. A final student performance for the school community brought the week to a fantastic finish.
PAS Armand Zildjian Percussion Scholarship
Armand Zildjian’s introduction into the world of music came at a very early age. Born into the Zildjian family with a 350 year-old tradition of cymbal craftsmanship, it was always understood that Armand would follow his father into the family business. For Armand, it was an honor to match cymbals for the great symphonies and to collaborate with the greatest drummers of the day to develop the new cymbal sounds musicians were looking for.
In receiving his honorary Doctorate from Berklee College of Music in 1988, Armand told the Berklee students how very fortunate they were to have the opportunity to stud contemporary music. "In my day", said Armand, “the classroom was primarily the night clubs where all the great musicians learned from each other." As a charter member of the Percussive Arts Society and a 16 year Trustee of Berklee, Armand sought to create more learning opportunities for today’s musicians both in contemporary and classical music. This scholarship is one step in fulfilling that quest.
