Marvin "Smitty" Smith - Performer
A truly versatile musician, Smitty is one of the select few drummers that can easily switch legitimately from the funkiest Funk to the hardest
Hard Bop. His work as a member of Steve Coleman and Five Elements and the M-Base Collective helped to pioneer a new style of "fusion" music that relied heavily upon his uncanny ability to make the most complex of time signatures "swing" and feel natural.
Currently holding down the drum chair in Jay Leno's Tonight Show Band, he can also be seen playing around Los Angeles with Kevin Eubanks, Don Byron and Harry Sheppard.
"All Zildjian cymbal ranges blend well together, but I prefer the K's and K Customs. I really like their melodic tone row. The bell on the K Custom Medium Ride has great tone, it really cuts and at the same time has 'body'."
